I believe that art is a calling. My earliest memories are playing with finger paints in my playpen. Passions are innate, you build on what you love. My other life-long love has been animals. I’ve had at least one cat since I was a child, and I spent over twenty years pet sitting as an adult, it is a vocation, and avocation. “Vocation” is a calling, animals and art are my vocations. I have found a way to combine the two, which is inspiring and thrilling. My goal is to capture the essence of the subjects I paint, whether commissions or images from nature.
My work is influenced by the vibrant colors and textures of nature . I strive to create pieces that are both visually stunning and emotionally impactful. I have always been drawn to the water. Most of my original works are inspired by life on the Chesapeake Bay. Both wildlife, and boats.
My work with animals has also led me to work on portraits of pets and people. My range is broad. I have painted children, adults, dogs, cats, horses, birds, and have a commission for a lizard. Please contact me for more information. I paint from photos, not life (painting a dog would be impossible unless they were sound asleep!) I capture the essence of my subjects, that particular twinkle in their eye, or mischievous look on their face. I believe that is the purpose of portraiture.
